Planting a Herb Garden

Materials:
  • small container to start growing plants in (example: egg carton, yogurt container)
  • soil
  • peat moss
  • rooting compound (can be purchase from a gardening shop)
  • water (to water regularly)
  • variety of herbs (hard herbs: cuttings/sprigs from rosemary, thyme, tarragon, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, lemon verbeman, oregano; soft herbs: seeds of basil, coriander)
Instructions:
  1. Clean out the container(s) you will grow the herbs in. It is very important to have the container as clean as possible because this helps the herbs grow best.
  2. If you are planting seeds, add some peat moss to the soil, place the soil mixture into the container so that the container is full and then cover the seeds with the soil.
  3. If you are planting the herb cuttings, cut the bottom few leaves off, place the bottom of the stem in the rooting compound and then cover the rooting compound with soil. The top of the herb cuttings can be coming out of the soil.
  4. Be sure to water your herbs every day and place them somewhere that gives them plenty of sunlight.
